Living in Fullerton

Fullerton is North OC's college town — a city of about 140,000 anchored by Cal State Fullerton (one of the largest CSU campuses, with about 40,000 students), Fullerton College (one of California's oldest community colleges), and Hope International University. The result is a city with more student energy, more cultural programming, and a more walkable downtown than almost any other North OC community.

Downtown Fullerton, centered on Harbor Boulevard, is one of OC's liveliest walkable downtowns — restaurants, bars, the Fox Theatre (a 1925 historic theater), and a college-town nightlife scene that gives the area an energy distinct from neighboring suburbs. The Fullerton Train Station is one of the busiest Metrolink stations in OC, making Fullerton one of the most transit-accessible North OC cities.

Residentially, Fullerton has remarkable neighborhood diversity. Raymond Hills is the affluent custom-home hillside community with city views. Sunny Hills is the established affluent neighborhood anchored by Sunny Hills High School. Amerige Heights is the modern master-planned village with town-center retail. Plus the historic core blocks around the Fullerton Arboretum and the older neighborhoods near downtown are filled with mid-century and Spanish-Colonial architecture.

The Fullerton Arboretum (a 26-acre botanical garden), the Muckenthaler Cultural Center, and the Fullerton Museum Center give the city more cultural infrastructure than its size would suggest. Fullerton is the OC city for people who want walkable downtown energy, college-town culture, and strong North OC schools without the master-planned uniformity of Yorba Linda or Brea. It's also one of the better OC cities for car-light living thanks to the Metrolink line.
