Living in Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach is Orange County's artist colony — a small coastal city of about 23,000 residents perched on dramatic coves, bluffs, and canyons that has been Southern California's premier seaside arts community for more than a century. The early-1900s plein-air painters who first put Laguna on the map established an artistic identity that the community has actively protected ever since. Today, Laguna's three legendary summer festivals — the Festival of Arts, the Pageant of the Masters (a tableau-vivant performance unlike anything else in the world), and the Sawdust Art Festival — draw hundreds of thousands of visitors and define the city's summer rhythm.

The coastline is where Laguna's identity lives. Main Beach, Heisler Park, Crescent Bay, Shaw's Cove, Aliso Beach, and Treasure Island Beach form one of the most beautiful continuous stretches of coastline in California — sandstone bluffs, tidepools, sea caves, and pocket coves that change every quarter mile. The Montage Laguna Beach and the Surf & Sand Resort anchor the luxury hospitality scene; Heisler Park's bluff-top trail provides a walkable spine through the Village.

Downtown Laguna — "the Village" — is one of the most walkable coastal downtowns in OC, with Forest Avenue, galleries, restaurants, and the Laguna Beach Lifeguard Tower at Main Beach as the visual center. North Laguna offers a quieter coastal residential feel; South Laguna stretches down to Aliso Beach and Montage's coastline; Top of the World is the highest-elevation hilltop community with panoramic ocean views; and Laguna Canyon is the eclectic eucalyptus-lined corridor that connects Laguna to the 405.

Laguna Beach is the OC city for people who want a coastal village identity above almost all else — small population, fierce protection of arts character, walkable village living, and a coastline that no other California beach town can match. The premium is steep, but Laguna's character is non-replicable.
